The Iranian authorities have wrongfully decided to suspend the budget for combating desertification from the revenue of Ahvaz oil in 2013. The government of Iran must accept responsibility toward solving this environment disaster which is causing the loss of innocent lives of Al Ahwaz citizens.
We have been witnessing in the recent years that the environmental pollution of the cities of Al Ahwaz province significantly exceeded the rate of 4,000 micrograms per cubic meter, but the Iranian authorities for more than one decade has not allocated an annual budget to put an end to the phenomenon of pollution and the breadth of desertification throughout the Al Ahwaz province.
The AL Ahwaz human rights sources have revealed that the fight against desertification and pollution environment requires and annual budget of more than $ 700 million and also the ending to the policy of building dams construction in multiple areas to put an end to the distortion of the stream of water that are the cause of the drying rivers and the phenomenon breadth of desertification.
The sources also confirmed that the environmental pollution in Ahwaz has resulted in the daily life loss of Al Ahwaz citizens and is the cause for the spread of pulmonary and renal diseases, respiratory and also skin diseases that threatens the lives of our citizens. The Iranian authorities do not provide any official or even semi-official statistics regarding the exact number of such deaths in Al Ahwaz province.
